Best Chili for Chili Dogs Recipe

Chili for Chili Dogs: My husband wooed me with his famous Chili Cheese Dilly Dogs-but his chili came from a can. I knew if our union was to last, we’d have to do better.

This tangy, sweet, spicy chili is the perfect consistency for hot dogs, chili cheeseburgers, and “tot-chos”-whatever else you can dream up! And it’s ready to use in just over 30 minutes.

INGREDIENTS For Chili Dogs

  • 1 ⅓ pounds ground round
  • ½ cup ice water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper, or more to taste
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cider vinegar

Directions for Chili Dogs

Add the ground beef to a large bowl and pour the ice water over it. Mix to combine.

Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and sweat them for 2–3 minutes until they are softened and slightly translucent.

Add the garlic, salt, cumin, chili powder, onion powder, and cayenne to the onions and stir until well combined and very fragrant.

Add the ground beef to the onions and cook until browned.

Stir in the ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and vinegar. Simmer for 15 minutes with a covering lid slightly askew.
